After school I went home and notice there was not an extra car in the driveway today. Every day this week, Mrs. Bendy has been over when I got home. I think it has worn my poor mother out. Maybe Mrs. Bendy is why the ghosts are not here right now. Maybe she has worn them out, too. I ran in the house and everything seemed to be normal. Mom was in the kitchen cooking dinner. She smiled when I came in, but didn’t say anything. She was humming a hymn and I knew she was probably glad she wasn’t entertaining Mrs. Bendy today. I went to my bedroom to start on my homework when I saw a moment out the corner of my eye. I walked out into the hall way and did not see anything, so I started on my homework again. There it goes again….a movement….really, come on. I realize I haven’t heard the boys since I came home so I decided I would go check on them. There on the floor were Bobby, Charlie, and Ella….what was strange was that they weren’t moving. I ran over to them and tried to wake them up, but they didn’t move. They felt cold as ice. I ran down the stairs and told Mom, “There is really something wrong with the kids, hurry, Mom we have to get help.”Mom, still humming, turned away from the stove and looked at me with a smile on her face. She just kept on cooking…something is definitely wrong here. Mom looks like she is crazy, or something. I have got to get some help for my brothers and little sister. I run into the living room, to use the phone to call for help, and there on the couch is my mom and all my little siblings. “Hey Mike, I didn’t hear you come in” my mom was saying to me. Okay, so this is all a dream? What is the ghost trying to show me? Everything is fine with everyone. Why did it look so real and why did it “feel” so real? It is a scary image of your siblings lying there not moving, and your own mother acting like she didn’t care. Is this what happened to this poor little girl in the white dress?

About the Book
Mike and his family move from the big city to a little town in the middle of nowhere, where Mike hopes to find new friends. After the first couple of days at the new school, he discovers that it isn’t so easy—especially after everyone finds out that he moved into the yellow two-story house over on 7th Street. Rumor has it that anyone who moves into that house will surely die. He does not understand what everyone is talking about until he meets up, face-to-face, with a little girl in a white dress.
What happened to this little girl and why did she die? These are just a few of the many questions Mike is determined to find the answers to. With the help of some new friends, he soon finds out that he might discover more than he bargained for.
About the Author
Gail Allison Griffin grew up in a small town in Texas, where she met her husband. They have three children and three grandchildren. Gail loves to read books, bake cookies, and, of course, write children’s books. She fell in love with books when she visited her first library as a child. In high school she was one of the librarian aides, and she knew then that she wanted to be part of that world. By working at a school library in her hometown for over twenty-one years, Gail has devoted her life to putting books into the hands of young readers.
