The young prince stepped out quickly and was delighted when the dark girl ran into his arms. He held her close for a moment until Lilith saw the two women step into the clearing, both with grins on their faces. She stepped back quickly and, her head down, folded her hands together.
“He never hugged me like that!” said Melisande with a stifled smile. As the little daku looked up at her in shock, she added, “All I ever get is a pat on the head!” Then, she laughed.
“Melisande, behave!” said Rene’ sternly, yet with a broad grin. She moved up to the small dark mage girl and held a hand to her. “I am Iaprene’ Anolin, Mage and Priestess to Lord Infinitus of the Triad Lords of Light.” As Lilith tentatively took the hand, Rene’ added, “And you must be the brave girl Raven has told us so much about.”
“Actually,” said Melisande with a grin as she moved to the little daku’s side and laid a strong hand to her little shoulder, “he tends to go on and on! I am Melisande, priestess to U’Marz, Second of the Triad. Is it true? Are you the daughter of Lord Galdreal?”
“Yes, m’lady.” Lilith said as she pushed the hood of her cloak of darkness back and allowed the sun to bath her dark features.

R.L. POOL served in the US Army and traveled to several continents as a function of that service. A_ er his retirement in 1988, he began work as a metrology technician for a branch of the National Institute of Standards Technology. Pool is a father and grandfather and currently lives in Leakey, Texas. This is the third book in the Catlorian series.
