Lil’ Joe played hooky for the first time, and went fishing with a friend, Eloy instead of going to school. Lil Joe did not know how to swim. He fell into the creek water and did not know how to swim. His friend Eloy tried to save him but Lil’ Joe grabbed his legs and was hitting Eloy. Eloy had to smack Li; Joe in order to free himself and not drown with Lil’ Joe. Eloy rushed to the busy street to flag someone down, but no one would stop. Eventually a man did and got out of his vehicle and approached the banks of the Turtle Creek. By the time the man reached Lil’ Joe, he was faced down, motionless and down about 12 inches under the water surface floating. The man grabbed Lil’ Joe and began to place pressure on his lungs and revived him. His name was Mr. L. L. Horne, a 6 foot 4 inches Texas Oil Executive. Lil’ Joe was taken to Parkland Hospital. He was released and he walked home. Lil’ Joe did not mention anything to his parents because he didn’t want to get spanked with the ironing cord. Lil’ Joe’s mother, Mrs. V. was a seamstress at Nardis. The next morning Lil’ Joe mother was asked by her co-workers, “How’s Joe?” She was perplexed but was shown Lil’ Joe, The Dallas Police and Mr. Horne on the front page of the Dallas Morning News. Mrs. V left work and rush to Lil’ Joe and surprised him with a hamburger and bought him a camera kit. With a carrying case. Instead of being spanked, Lil’ Joe got presents and a lot of hugs and kisses from his mother.

About the Author
Lil’ Joe started working at the age of eleven. He was born on Magnolia Street in downtown Three Forks and raised in El Barro. He grew up poor, religious, incorrigible (was going to the be sent to Boys Town, Omaha, Nebraska), He had seven life/death cases, was in a Rock n Roll and Latin Bands, boxed in the Golden Gloves, a serviceman in the United States Navy, College Student, USPS Letter Carrier/ Station Manager. He raised three children and two step children. He remarried Alicia and he retired from USPS and traveled overseas. He is an 80 years and highly motived. He is an ordinary man, married to Alicia, an Extra Ordinary woman.
