In January of 2012 I went into psychosis just after singing God Bless America with the television. I then felt like I was Jesus and started calling my mother Mary. Soon I started raising my voice asking my parents to listen to me. At some point I started yelling "Listen to me," so my father dialed 911, and then I blacked out mentally, not remembering the rest of the night. I woke up in a hospital bed with a sore throat and assumed I had some sort of surgery. A nurse walked up to ask how I was feeling and pulled out a sedating needle. When she saw I was calm she put it away. I then noticed I was strapped down to the hospital bed. My mom later told me that I was screaming all night. So much, that they had to tie me down and put a spit mask on me. Of the entire night I only have one memory. At some point I looked up at the hospital light above me and felt that the whole world was watching me. I then saw that I was alone in the room with just one nurse. I turned to him and said, "I'm just a messenger." Then again, I lost all memory of what happened next.

About the Book
D. Charleston grew up like any other kid: No one would have predicted he would grow up developing schizophrenia. By the time he finished junior high school, he was excelling physically and academically. He took sixth place in the semi-state high jump championship, and was neck to neck with a student who became a professor at M.I.T. In college, his grades went from As to Cs, as he lost all desire to study. He goofed off, wasted tuition money, and only made it through one year. Before long, he’d decided his family was evil, his city was evil, and America was corrupted with wickedness. He fled to Mexico thinking he would find peace in a new place. Later, returning to America, he found himself homeless and was arrested at a Burger King for trespassing while searching for food in a trash can. Making matters worse, a fishing knife he was carrying was deemed to be a concealed weapon. Going to jail, however may have saved his life. This book gives insight into his mind, what psychosis is, and what the mind believes is reality, during psychosis.
About the Author
D. Charleston was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the mid 1990s. He enjoys writing short stories, speaking Spanish, and composing songs on the keyboard. This is his first published book.
