Madeleine was very, very puzzled and very, very sad. Her tears became bigger and bigger and ploppier and ploppier. “I cannot dance through the sky,” wept Madeleine. “I cannot swoop, I cannot gobble worms – and I cannot understand why these are called gifts.” But, as Madeleine watched Moriah’s beautiful sky dance and saw how happy her sister was as she gracefully waltzed and whirled, the twisty feeling inside her became a little less … and her tears became a little bit – just a very little bit – smaller.

About the Book
Madeleine has three siblings. One flies through the sky gracefully. Another is great at swooping, and the third is brilliant at catching worms. Madeleine can do none of these things. Through Christine’s expressive and empathetic words, and Alison’s delightful and sensitively created artwork, the story is told of Madeleine’s feelings of failure and subsequent discovery of her very own special ability.
About the Author
In addition to having been a teacher, Christine has been a busker, restaurant pianist, cleaner and apple-picker. She is now working as a school chaplain, as well as a relief teacher. Christine is also the very proud Mum to two adult sons. In her work as a teacher and a chaplain, Christine has met a number of children who believed they were "... no good at anything ....." despite all of them being good at something! Madeleine's Gift was written in order to encourage all children to recognise they possess abilities and value. Madeleine's Gift is a beautiful children's story which also provides a springboard for discussion amongst families, between teachers and students, and between childhood friends, about, not only each child's unique abilities, but about family, animals and birds, personal relationships and positive behaviours such as encouragement and perseverance. It is also suitable for use by those involved in children's ministry. Christine's qualifications include an Associate in Music, Australia, a Diploma of Teaching, Associate Degree of Christian Thought and Practice, and a Bachelor of Theology.
