Being a Substitute Parent at Eight

This book explains many decisions that older sister had to make for the three of them on a daily basis. She had started sleep walking and most episodes were minor, but once when they had all fallen asleep on the couch while watching television was a real frightening time. She woke up from her nightmare and saw a man in her Dad's bedroom. He was tearing the bed apart looking for something. She woke her sisters and told them, "we need to get out of the house quickly." They all got outside, but could not go to neighbors for help since it was so late, and they might call the police, and then they would be taken away from their Dad. It took some time to work up the courage to go down the alley in the dark and look into her Dad's bedroom and see that the man was not there. She told her sisters that the man was not there and they went back into the house.
