With his face still turned from me he gripped the door and shut it firmly. The door groaned as it closed and gave a final thud as the latch fell. I stood in the dust for a few moments without thinking, just feeling the weight of this, the horror of the moment. My palms were sweaty even as my body shook with chill. My head pounded while my heart seemed to be squeezed tightly into a ball of pain. I concentrated on breathing. I needed to move. I clutched my bundled cloak to my chest and turned away from my home. I put one foot forward, and slowly began to walk away. Away from Orli’s sobs I could still hear; away from the happiness and love I had known; away from the only life I knew how to live. I walked away from the past and into a dark and foreboding future.

About the Author
Cheryll enjoys life with her husband of 44 years, Richard, their three dogs, 6 adult children and 9 grandjoys. She has been involved in women's ministry since the 1980's. Cheryll has been a board member for Meet Me at the Well Foundation, an organization dedicated to assisting survivors of sex trafficking. This is her first book.
